Leave your detailsWhat a good trainer does for this goal
Staying active as you get older is about keeping your strength, balance and confidence in everyday movement. A good trainer for this goal starts with how you feel now, not with a fixed plan. They will build sessions around what you want to keep doing, such as getting up from a chair, carrying shopping or walking further, and they will adjust the pace as you go.
Your brief helps trainers understand you. Tell them what you enjoy, what you want to be able to do more easily, and any aches, past injuries or conditions they should know about. Say where you would like to train, whether that is a gym, at home or online, and when you are free. If you have a health condition, check with your GP or physio before you start, and mention it in your brief so trainers can train you safely.
Common questions
Do I need to be fit already to start?
No. A good trainer will meet you where you are and build up gradually. Say how active you are now in your brief so they can plan from there.
What should I tell a trainer about my health?
Include any conditions, injuries, medication that affects exercise, or recent changes in how you move. Only share what a trainer needs to train you safely, and check with your GP or physio where it matters.
Can I train at home or online instead of in a gym?
Yes. When you write your brief, choose whether you want to train at a gym, at home or online. Trainers who offer those options can reply to you.
