Getting back to fitness after a baby takes time, and the right trainer will work at your pace. A good trainer for this goal starts with how you feel now, not where you were before. They build strength gradually, check your core and pelvic floor progress, and plan sessions around sleep and feeding. They should also know when to suggest a check with your GP or physio before you push harder.
When you write your brief, say how long it has been since the birth and whether you had any complications. Tell us where you would like to train, at a gym, at home or online, and when you are free. Mention anything that affects your training, such as caesarean recovery or a current issue. Only include what a trainer needs to train you safely. Health details go to the trainers you choose only if you tick the box to agree.
Common questions
Do I need my GP or physio's approval before I start?
It is worth checking with your GP or physio first, especially after a caesarean or if you have any pelvic floor concerns. Tell your trainer what they advise.
What should I put in my brief about the birth?
Include how long ago you gave birth and any complications or ongoing symptoms that affect exercise. Only share what a trainer needs to plan your sessions safely.
Can I train with a trainer if my baby comes to sessions?
This depends on the trainer and the setting, so ask them when you send your brief. Say whether you would need childcare or a space where your baby can be with you.
